#247 - The Dormers Wells Massacre.

On the evening of Wednesday 11th November 1987, two orthodox Sikhs (Rajinder Singh Batth and Mangit Singh Sunder) sat in the sports hall of Dormers Wells High School in Southall, listening to the sermons of (some say) ‘self-proclaimed’ Guru Darshan Das. It would become one of Britain rare school shootings, and yet, unlike Dunblane, it has almost been forgotten.

Date: Wednesday 11th November 1987 at roughly 9:30pm
Location: Dormers Wells High School, Allenby Road, Southall, London, England, UB1
Victim: 4 (Mahraz Darshan Das Ji, Joga Singh and Satwant Singh Panesar all died of their injuries, Dharan Singh Bimbrah survived having been released from hospital)
Culprit: 2 (Rajinder Singh Batth and Mangit Singh Sunder)
Method: assassination, shooting at faith meeting

0:14.4	Today, I'm standing on Allenby Road in South Hall UB1, one mile west of the last sighting of Alice Cross, two miles north of the Joanne family

0:47.3	Dormous Wells High School is an all-inclusive secondary in sixth form.
0:52.3	It's a quiet street, but as with all kids, inclusive, secondary and six-form.
0:54.4	It's a quiet street.
0:56.7	But as with all kids, once the little darlings get all sugged up, they dash about like
1:02.8	Tasmanian devils with a serious case of the bum grapes and squeal like spinal taps
1:08.7	Rody has set the volume on all of their voices to 11.
1:14.5	It's such a horrific din.
1:17.5	The collective cacophony can make cats wince.
1:20.4	Bats weep.
1:21.7	And those of us with tinnitus actually wish that the awful humming in our ears would increase.
1:31.2	But what there isn't is a memorial to the massacre and the bloodshed,
1:36.5	which occurred on Wednesday the 11th of November, 1987,
1:40.5	when murder came to this quiet little street.
1:46.6	Rebuilt in 2011, a £30 million regeneration project has replaced the old high school with a thoroughly modern one.
1:56.3	And although the sounds of squealing and screaming still remain,
2:00.6	what is erased was the tragic memory of one of Britain's only school shootings.
2:07.3	A mass murder, which was barely reported and is almost forgotten.
