Summary

We challenge narrow views of worship by unpacking verse three of the OC Supertones’ What It Comes To and tracing each line to Scripture. From the war with the flesh to the triumph of the resurrection, we show how unexpected genres can carry deep, clear theology. • expanding what counts as worship music • why singing to God is not optional • the inner war between flesh and Spirit • trials as refining fire in sanctification • living water and the call to ministry • substitution and propitiatio...

Welcome to the Daily Blade. The Word of God is described as the sword of the spirit, the primary spiritual weapon in the Christian's armor against the forces of evil. Your hosts are Joby Martin and Kyle Thompson, and they stand ready to equip men for the fight. Let's sharpen up.

Great to have you all back. This week on The Daily Blade, I'm bringing you music that you might not normally label as worship.

0:25.7

And I know a lot of men aren't really into contemporary worship music, but singing to God is not optional.

0:30.4

So my goal is to broaden what counts as worship music. So yesterday we looked at the song Graves by the rapper KB.

0:36.5

And today we're looking at the song

0:37.7

What It Comes to by the ska punk band, the O.C. Supertones. So I know that ska and punk aren't

1:15.3

verse three, even just by itself, is full of biblical truce. And if you dig into each line,

1:21.2

you'll be set with Bible study material for a while. So let me actually read verse three of the

1:25.7

song to you here. It's me against my desires

1:28.3

and inclinations. Pass through the fire into salvation. Bring water to the thirsty like irrigation.

1:34.5

When you go toe to toe, you don't go one on one. But Christ in my place in substitution showed me

1:41.6

his grace's propitiation. Heard the devil laugh and he thought he had won,

1:46.3

but then came the comeback, the resurrection.

1:49.4

All right, let's go line by line.

1:50.7

Here's the line, it's me against my desires and inclinations.
