Harland David Sanders was born on September 9th 1890 on a small farm in Henryville, Indiana

to Wilbert Sanders a butcher and Margaret Ann Dunneve just five years into his quiet midwestern life

the chaos that would characterize Harland's life began

In 1895 his father closed his butcher shop early and stumbled home in the middle of the day feverish and pale

He would die quickly thereafter

Wilbert Sanders sudden death put the Sanders family into a tailspin

forcing Margaret to take work at a local tomato canning factory in addition to doing freelance sewing for nearby families
