and unending enduring mystery of what an earth went on actually in France during the occupation

of the Second World War.

But we've got Patrick Monham and I've got to say I'm thrilled to see you, Patrick,

and I'm thrilled to have you on the podcast because I read your biography of Jean-Moulin

some years ago and enjoyed it very much and found it absolutely fascinating.

And I positively devoured war in the shadows.

I was sent it by your publishers back months and months and months ago when it was still

just a PDF version before it had been published or anything.

And I just found it utterly, utterly fascinating.

And it's amazing really how many myths have endured about the SOE in France and what

really happened, particularly I suppose, with the Prosper Circuit, which is this very

famous circuit network of agents that came undone around the same time that Jean-Moulin

was captured in Leon in the end of June 1943.

Just before the Allies invaded Sicily.

And the finger has been pointed at various people over the years, but particularly René

Hardy is the guy who's supposed to be the kind of arch-cult-prote-fajormula.

But then you get this very, very intriguing letter from someone who clearly was a spook
