Oh yeah, what's up? How's it going? Greetings from Los Angeles. I am on the road. As you

0:15.4

may know, if you've been listening, excited to talk to your listeners and readers every

0:19.2

day about my new book, Gonzo Capitalism. And of course, the show rolls on. The show

0:23.4

known as Side Usal School. In this week's Failure Friday segment, we're going to hear

0:27.1

from a personal finance blogger who failed to renew his domain name. This is a pretty

0:31.9

crushing failure. If you forget to renew your domain name, it's a long story. Sometimes

0:36.7

you can get it back, but most of the time you can't. It's just gone. Somebody else comes

0:40.4

and takes it. So in his case, it was stolen by a company that puts up junk websites with

0:46.0

affiliate links, advertising, trying to make some money. They make money basically by stealing

0:51.1

other people's domains. Like Side Usal School.com or whatever domain name you have. It could

0:55.9

be your name, it could be your business name. You have to pay for that every year, actually.

0:59.8

1:03.9

tell the story. Max Martin is his name. He's a software developer, DJ, and former personal

1:09.2

finance blogger. What happened? How did it feel? And what did he learn? So I'll be back

1:14.5

at the end with a quick wrap up. But first, here's Max.

1:26.9

Hey there, I'm Max. The guy who once navigated the waters of personal finance blogging, only

1:32.6

to be capsized by a sneaky domain renewal. Or rather, the lack thereof. For a couple

1:38.6

of years, Max's money musings was my humble little corner of the internet. I wrote about

1:45.3

everything from budgeting to Bitcoin, guiding readers to become masters of their financial

1:50.9

fate. The process was a reward in itself, researching complex financial concepts, distilling

1:58.4

them down into understandable articles, and seeing my readers benefit from my insights.

2:05.3

My blog had just started gaining traction with a faint hope of ad revenue in the air when
