Having all three of us, and I say three of us, meaning clients and me and the builder at the table, and having honest conversations, that's the best way to go about a project, right?

Because everybody understands expectations at that point.

And this week's installment of the Fine Home Building Pro Talk podcast, we pick up our conversation

with architect Steve Bask. On the regular Fine Home Building podcast, we've been talking a lot lately about affordability,

housing affordability. And it sparked a lot of conversation amongst listeners, why houses are so

expensive. And I'm sure you'd agree there's a number of factors involved. What do you think

the study of architecture, the field of architecture should be doing to make some housing more affordable

so working class folk can afford a new home or maybe a townhome or a condo or whatever it

might be. How is there such a discrepancy between most architecture, architect-driven projects and the rest of us?

You know, it's, so there's probably about three doors I can open up here and go into three

totally different rooms. So there's certainly the one where, you know, there's some really good

experienced architects that just, you know, they would rather do the million plus, you know,

house and not have to deal with the smaller one. There's, you know, I get a lot of calls

from people that, you know, want a very affordable house, want an extremely energy

efficient and such.

But their dreams are inversely proportional to their wallets.

And they can't.

They just can't.

I mean, yeah, everybody wants to do the right thing.

Oh, I want to do this.

And near passive house and all of this. And I have 200,000. everybody wants to do the right thing. Oh, I want to do this and near passive

house and all of this and I have 200,000. It's like, I'm sorry, but we're in the Boston area.
