Summary

Step into a year that loves you back 💫 You deserve your own friendship—kindness, care, and compassion included. You are worthy of the same love you so freely give to others.

In this week’s episode of Life Happens with Barb & Michelle, we continue our conversation on daily practices by exploring one of the most powerful tools for resilience and confidence: affirmations. We talk about how intentional self-talk can shift your mindset, strengthen problem-solving, and help you show up with more self-trust.

💬 Barb shares her wisdom on rooting the mind in truth and self-compassion, even when self-doubt and life’s challenges feel loud.

💬 Michelle opens up about discovering affirmations and how this simple practice transformed her relationship with herself.

What We Talk About

  • Becoming Your Own Best Friend: Offering yourself the same grace and care you give to others
  • Negative vs. Positive Thinking: How choosing supportive thoughts helps create new neural pathways
  • Building Resilience: Staying grounded in your affirmations instead of spiraling into worry or self-doubt
  • Honoring Your Feelings: Affirmations don’t bypass emotions—feel your feelings without letting them define you

Remember: celebrate the small moments and the big wins. Speak to yourself with kindness, honor who you are becoming, and stay present in your day-to-day life.

Hi, everyone. Welcome back to Life Happens with Barb and Michelle. We are so happy you're here with us again this week. We wanted to kind of continue last week's conversation a little bit as we're still a little bit in the energy of the new year. Last week, if you haven't already watched or listened, we talked about my mom's intention word for this new year for 2026, being patience. And I think we had a really great

0:22.1

conversation about that. I mean, I liked it too. I felt very motivated after it. Yeah. I could tell.

0:29.8

Sometimes, I mean, I always like our conversations, but that one really struck me in a deep way.

0:35.5

I think we could have gone for another hour, so I really liked it a lot.

0:38.7

I know you definitely could have because you love to talk. But after we stopped recording,

0:45.9

we were talking more and really wanted to kind of not continue it in that same vein of talking

0:51.6

about patients, but the new year and what kind of practices

0:57.5

we are leaning in on and focusing on in a healthy, meaningful way. And you kind of maybe

1:05.4

subconsciously or consciously led into it at the end of last week's episode talking about

1:11.4

becoming your own best friend. And you mentioned, and I talk about it in my book, Dear

1:18.1

Friend, and we're going to go into an entry today about that. But what does it mean to become

1:25.7

your own best friend? And that's really something that I'm thinking about this year in 2026 of I talk about it so often in my work,

1:33.9

but what does it really look like in my own practice, in my own life?

1:38.2

And what does it look like for me to actually show up and be my own best friend?

1:43.1

Like I would say for someone else to do.

1:46.1

And what are some of the affirmations and tools and practices that can help support that

1:52.1

in our very busy and chaotic and stressful lives?

1:55.4

I think I love this, Michelle, so much. I'm so happy that we're continuing, you're right,

2:00.0

not the episode, you can watch the episode separate from this so happy that we're continuing. You're right. Not the episode. You can watch the

2:02.0

episode separate from this episode, but we're continuing this idea of practice. You and I have been

2:07.9

talking about this a lot. We love doing the podcast. It's one of our favorite things. It probably is

2:13.7

like the number one favorite thing that we do in the work that we're doing. Which is so funny because
