Why don't you tell me your name and introduce yourself?

0:04.4

Gosh, I don't even know where to start. I am a German who immigrated to America,

0:09.2

has reverse immigrated back to Germany. I am a traveler, very much so, but I'm stuck and can travel

0:14.8

as, of course, none of us can, which was a big reason that we re-immigrated back to Germany

0:20.7

to travel, and here we are. You came back, when did you go back to Germany?

0:25.4

It was two and a half years ago. So you went there partially to travel,

0:29.5

as you say. Yes. You're feeling some cabin fever. Very much. I mean, I'm not alone in this. I'm sure.

0:37.2

You're absolutely right. And tell me a little bit. Just give me the context. You emailed me.

0:46.9

Tell me your story. What did you share in that email? Yeah, so I, oh, I think I'll start at the

that's pretty normal for PhD students. I mean, I knew something wasn't right. I read your book and

1:17.6

really clarified for me that what wasn't right is that I wasn't living according to my values.

1:22.9

I had these dreams I've had for a really long time. I wanted to become a mother.

1:27.3

I moved to the US if my parents and that's 12. I wanted to move back to Europe. I wanted to travel.

1:33.3

I was always a big passion for me in Europe, especially. But I wasn't doing any of those things,

1:38.8

because I kept prioritizing my career. I made some really big changes at the time. I

1:44.3

shortly thereafter, we moved to Paris for six months, which was an unusual move for a PhD student

1:49.8

and took me out of my program for a little bit. And then, kind back to the US to finish my program

1:54.9

and get my PhD a year later, moved to Germany for a postdoc, which was on paper looks like a good

2:01.9

decision. And I'm sure, I mean, I know on hindsight, it was a very good decision. But it was also me
