Hi, I'm J.M. Perkins, author and game designer, and you're listening to the Dungeon Master's Block, the place where we talk about the most important person in the game, the Dungeon Master, the only person capable of playing God, killing characters, and lowering the egos of all the other players of the table. I'm one of your host, Dungeon Master Chris. And I'm Dungeon Master Mitch. And we have a great episode for you today, dealing with survivalist and horror gaming. If you've listened to our podcast at all, you know that we've had this kind of interaction with

1:11.6

Tribality.com and some of their writers going on. We've had Rich Howard on, and we have some more episodes planned with other writers and contributors to that website.

1:19.6

And today we have J.M. Perkins. And if you're not familiar with his work at all, he writes two separate columns at

1:25.6

tribality.com, one specifically dealing with survivalist

1:29.3

and horror type gaming. And so he contacted us shortly after we got done with the Rich Howard

1:33.6

interview and said, hey, we should talk about survivalist and horror campaigns. I feel like there's

1:37.9

a lot that I can offer to your listeners that could help them and inspire them to do survivalist

1:42.9

and horror type gaming.

1:47.7

And so when we get to that interview later on in the episode, I will tell you,

1:49.8

he certainly does that for both of us.

1:53.7

There was a lot of things that were talked about that inspired us quite a bit to add some of these elements into our games that deal specifically with survivalists,

1:58.2

adding new elements and rules in that help your players think more critically

2:01.9

and think just a little bit deeper about, okay, do I need food, do I need water, things like that,

2:06.9

and also talking to us about how to describe things in such a way that makes this sort of element

2:12.4

of horror come alive in the minds of our characters. And so we're really excited for that

2:16.8

interview to come up.

2:17.7

We're going to talk about some of the things that he's written.

2:19.2

Other than that, and just he's going to share with us just so much information and knowledge that's just going to, it's going to scare you how much he actually knows about survivalist horror gaming. It's a really great interview. Got a lot of great ideas. Hopefully it'll spur your interests in if you haven't already done survivalist type

2:36.0

horror type campaigns that this will be the moment you're like that's that's something I want to do at least even for like a one shot

2:43.0

There's some great ideas coming up we definitely want to encourage you to use any of the ideas that you just really latch on to in this episode Yep Yep. So before we get to that portion, before we get to the story, before we get to the meet, we are going to jump into some shoutouts. And so Mitch, we have a couple of shoutouts this week. One of them is from our good buddy, Rich Howard. He's been on this show. He wrote, great show, five stars. Much needed resource for new and old DMs alike. Whether you're new to gaming or decades in, the show gives a ton of great advice, adventure hooks, and fun stories. It's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much, Rich. Thanks for being such a loyal listener and such a great friend. I love that guy. Even though he likes awkward. I love our, I love our, like, Gmail conversations going back and forth and how he doesn't know which one we're talking to you right away. That's great. Keep that mystery. Yeah, right, right. So, Mitch, who else do we have? We have another five star from Skeguel. He says, it's entitled Fun. It's nice and simple. And he tells us us good ride, easygoing podcast.
