Good afternoon everyone, this is Susan Koffin from Attitude magazine and today's

guest. I'm very very pleased to have her is Melissa Orloff who's a marriage

consultant and really one of the top experts in the nation on how ADHD affects relationship. a marriage

and really one of the top experts in the nation on how ADHD affects

relationships. She's been writing and speaking about the

topic since 2007 and she is the author of a book called

the ADHD effect on, which by the way, was awarded the Best

Psychological Book of 2010 award by forward reviews.

Melissa writes regularly for Attitude magazine and contributes to Attitude mag.

She also blogs at ADHD marriage.com where I think you find some interesting resources.

So with that let me turn it over to Melissa.

I'm delighted to be here and I'm very much looking forward to answering as many questions

as I can.

So I'm going to keep my up front introduction to this very brief.

But I wanted to start out with a few numbers to talk about how important this is as a topic and also what

is what sort of the typical experience is for many couples. So the reason that this is so important is that people really

are not aware for the most part of how ADHD impacts the relationship and yet it really does impact it greatly. The divorce

rates are very high for couples in which ADHD is present and not addressed and the rates of marital dysfunction are also very high.

About both of those, about double the normal population.

So there's a very big problem, but most people aren't aware of the problem and part of the reason
