Summary

Sam Dogen from Financial Samurai is one of the premier bloggers and names in self-made success. His blog www.FinancialSamurai.com provides actionable advice in living responsibly, making smart financial decision, and steps to accumulating wealth for an early retirement. Sam is a guy who transitioned from corporate America, to going out on his own starting with a blog and parlaying his success into other investments to build several income streams. He reached retirement just a few years after at the age of 34, and now enjoys living on the West Coast, playing tennis, and advising FinTech companies. We were pumped to get him on the show to tell his story, his advice, and how he sees the world now being retired in his 30s.

I'm back on my co-hears, Sam Marks, and we have on Sam the Financial Samurai this week.

0:29.0

Yeah, awesome guests and very happy.

0:32.4

You know, it's somebody that I've been following for a bit, and a lot of our listeners in the boss lounge have been chatting

0:39.1

about Financial Samurai and a lot of his content. So we reached out to him and very good to have

0:44.2

him agree to come on the show. Yeah, I think it's going to be really cool to kind of hear his backstory

0:48.3

because he writes a ton of great articles on Financial Samurai.com about wealth. And he basically retired pretty young, right?

0:57.5

Like, 30, was it 34?

0:59.0

Yeah, he's still a little bit active, you know.

1:01.2

I don't think anyone can truly retire in their early 30s.

1:04.5

It's a lot of, there's a big dark side to that.

1:07.4

But at least in a financial sense, yeah, he was retired by 34, from my understanding. Yeah. And I know he, he wrote a book about, uh, basically engineering your layoff. Uh, you guys can check that out, but he's, I'm sure he'll talk a little bit about it. But I think it's cool. I mean, I honestly, personally wouldn't want to retire in my 30s anyways. I think there's too much enjoyment out of life to just stop working.

1:31.5

Mm-hmm. personally wouldn't want to retire in my 30s anyways. I think there's too much enjoyment

1:28.7

out of life to just stop working. But the fact that he stopped working his corporate job

1:34.2

and moved on to things he actually enjoys doing, like his blog and investing, I think that

1:40.8

is the dream of most people. Yeah, I agree with definitely did it of that. And it's kind of a

1:46.5

situation that I've been playing around with as well after, you know, after we sold a business

1:51.2

and trying to do nothing for a while. And it's you, there's too much of a void, you know,

1:56.8

you have to get back into doing something that you're passionate about, whether it's just playing tennis or it's building a business or helping people.

2:04.2

And I think Sam from Financial Samurai is one of the best people out there to talk about it.
