A great one for a change, and this time I mean it.

You got to listen to this one because finally, finally, you're going to learn something from listening to the podcast, and it's about time.

My guest is historian Douglas Boyne, and his big area of expertise

is ancient Rome, and he's written this wonderful book, Allerick the Goth, an outsider's history

of the fall of Rome, and this Alaric the Goth led the sack of Rome in 410 AD. He's the guy

who brought down the Holy Roman Empire.

Barbarians at the gate, Alaric led them.

And the whole reason I interviewed him was that there are just tremendous parallels

between Rome in 410 AD and the United States in 2020 AD, including that the emperor at the time

had ridiculous hair.

So before we get to Alaric de Gauth, let's talk about Donald Trump for a second.

Holy mackerel, just when you think you couldn't possibly learn something worse,

when you already know about Donald Trump as a human being.

We get this Atlantic monthly story about his contempt for the suckers who've served in our military

and were wounded or died for our country.

Losers.

Now, you've probably heard this hashed out by now, but, you know, not going to the cemetery

in France where over a thousand Marines died in World War I, stopping the Germans

advance on Paris.

According to the article, Trump didn't go because it was raining and he was afraid that his hair would collapse.

Maybe that's the best word.
