Summary

In the last episode I attempted to explain ways that prepositions are used in English, and I failed because I wasn't prepared. I managed to get across the idea that prepositions are complicated because they're used in combination with other words, and that you have to remember vocabulary in 'chunks' but the idea was also to present you with some useful lists of preposition collocations. This time around I've done some more preparation. I've spent a bit more time on it and so for round 2 I think we should get a proper grip on the subject, while also having some fun noticing prepositions in an improvised story. I thought I'd just, know mention it maybe remind you

0:36.2

Sometimes I mentioned that the podcasters won awards in a slightly tongue-in-cheek way

0:41.5

I say tongue-do you know what tongue in cheek means?

0:44.0

If you do something tongue in cheek or if you do something in a tongue in cheek way,

0:49.0

it means that you're not completely serious,

0:51.0

you're kind of slightly, you're doing it in a

0:53.1

slightly self-conscious maybe slightly ironic way so sometimes I say on the

0:58.6

podcast welcome to this award-winning podcast I'm being a bit tongue in cheek but also I'm kind of not as well

1:06.7

and to an extent I'm sort of blowing my own trumpet too. Just in case you didn't know the podcast has won several awards. I won well it's the same

1:17.3

award I've just won it three times the McMillan Dictionary Award for Best, which is quite ironic because it's not really a

1:25.2

blog, is it is a podcast. But they don't have an award for Best Podcast, so I suppose I had

1:29.7

to just go into the blog category. I suppose you could call Luke's English

1:33.8

podcast or teacher Luke.co. UK it looks a bit like a blog it operates a bit like a

1:39.0

blog it's just that I post audio stuff there as well.
