G.K. Chesterton has a quote that says,

An inconvenience is only an adventure wrongly considered.

Isn't that great? An inconvenience is only an adventure wrongly considered.

This is the perfect summary of the concept that we have talked about before on this fine podcast of

the idea of instead of seeking to make memories, because when we think about the idea of,

you know, I want to make memories. I want to live some good memories with my family this year.

What you mean by that is you want everything to go perfectly. You want everything to be completely

perfect to go according to your plan. Everyone's happy. The birds are singing. The clouds part.

You know, it's 72 degrees constantly. Everything's fine. The kids are getting good grades.

You love your job and your life. Like that's when we say make memories, that is what we mean.

You know, maybe you go to Disney World, take some pictures

with a mouse, you know, and it's in their good picture, and you look hot, you know, you see the

pictures and you're like, wow, I look like, you know, better than I look. Did I lose 10 pounds? That's

amazing. That's what we mean when we say make memories. And that's nice. I mean, I do think that we should have some moments like that.

I mean, I haven't had any recently, but I, you know, I think that you guys should occasionally

have some nice moments like that. But here's the thing about it. It is a little boring.

It's a little boring when life constantly goes according to plan and

everything is just fine, isn't it? And that is why it's been one of the most life-changing

things I've ever done very relevant to my life at this particular moment to embrace the idea that when things go wrong, it's not that your,

you know, beautiful, precious family moment was ruined. It's that now, instead of making

precious fun memories, you're making lore. You know, like you get the bouncy castle for your kids' birthday,

and you spend two weeks planning the perfect Pinterest birthday party for your kids,
