Summary

Peter holds degrees in theoretical physics, experimental psychology, and computer science from the University of Cambridge, England, where he was a student of Stephen Hawking. Following university he went to India, to study meditation and Eastern philosophy. In the 1970s, he pioneered the introduction of personal growth programs to corporations, running courses for senior management on creativity, stress management and sustainable development. He coined the term "global brain" with his 1980s bestseller of the same name in which he predicted the Internet and the impact it would have on humanity. His other books, which include Waking Up in Time: Finding Inner Peace in Times of Accelerating Change, and From Science to God: A Physicist's Journey into the Mystery of Consciousness, and his visual presentations and videos have won international acclaim and awards. Peter's work integrates Eastern and Western understandings of the mind, exploring their relevance to the world today and to humanity's future. 0:30.6	I've known about Peter for a long time. I read two of his books, the TM book and the Global Brain back in the early 80s and really enjoyed them.
0:39.3	And I've been sort of following his career from a distance, so it's really a joy to be speaking with him today.
0:46.3	Let me just read a brief bio from the back of his book.
0:49.3	Peter gained an honors degree in physics and experimental psychology at the University of Cambridge, England,
0:55.4	and a postgraduate degree in computer science. In other words, he had the kind of adolescence
1:00.9	I'd like to have in my next lifetime. He studied meditation in Eastern philosophy in India.
1:06.7	In fact, he became a teacher of Transcendental Meditation in 1969, I became one a year later,
1:12.4	and on his return conducted research into the neurophysiology of meditation at the University of Bristol.
1:18.6	As an author and lecturer, he has explored the potentials of human consciousness,
1:22.8	integrating Eastern wisdom with the facts of Western science,
1:25.4	and shared with audiences worldwide his
1:27.8	discoveries and insights about the nature of consciousness, global change, and human evolution.
1:33.2	He's given a lot of programs in various businesses and his books include the TM technique,
1:38.6	the brain book, the Upanishads. He didn't write the Upanishads, but he did a commentary on them
1:43.5	or something. The global brain awakens and Waking Up in Time.
1:47.0	He also created the award-winning videos, The Global Brain and the White Hole in Time.
