Hello everyone and welcome to episode 237 of the Juice Box Podcast.

0:04.2

Today's episode you know by the title is with your favorite guest Jenny Smith.

0:09.2

Jenny and I are here today to add an 11th entry into my diabetes pro tip series.

0:14.6

Please don't let the fact that this is the 11th episode in this series make you think

0:19.0

Basel rate testing probably not that important.

0:21.1

If it was, they would have moved it up sooner. Not even close. Having your probably not even

0:23.6

even close having your basal insulin correct is the core of everything you're

0:28.1

doing with insulin you can't trust that your bolus was right or wrong, you can't understand why you got low or why you got high.

0:37.2

When your basal insulin isn't correct, everything you see coming back to you from your

0:42.2

blood sugar experiences, from your blood sugar experiences from your glucose monitors

0:44.8

0:51.5

basal isn't right.

0:53.7

Every time I speak with someone privately,

0:55.6

0:57.8

Doesn't matter if you're pumping or injecting,

0:59.9

and most people's basal insulin is significantly incorrect. If you're seeing blood

1:04.6

sugars that you don't understand, it's easy to see a low blood sugar and think that

1:09.2

means less basal. But that's not always the case.

1:13.7

At the end of this episode, I believe you're going to have a firmer grasp of what

1:16.6

basal insulin is, how to make adjustments to it, and why it's so important.

1:21.7

You really need to listen to this one. This is where it all starts.
