0:00.0 | And then suddenly they're dead because of a traffic scuffle and some nasty people who think nothing of taking their life. |
0:10.0 | I do think cops should be held to a higher standard than citizens, but I do not think citizens who are violent, especially violent towards cops or towards other citizens. |
0:24.0 | I don't think they should be let go. |
0:28.0 | Hello and welcome to Best Case, worst case. I'm your host, francey haigs, former state and federal prosecutor and joining me today in the same city in the same state in the same country is not in the same state of mind. Jim Clementi. |
0:52.0 | How you doing? I am retired FBI profiler and former New York City prosecutor and executive producer of boxes new America is most wanted. |
1:02.0 | And today we have no very special guest. |
1:08.0 | But we do have two very special regulars, Jim, just below at least in my zoom meeting from me. They're here and here. |
1:18.0 | We of course have our fabulous engineer Matt Gergol who couldn't be more fabulous and then our crack producer Josh Murphy. |
1:28.0 | All the gang really trying to high five you over there, Matt and it's our listeners can't see what you're doing though, Jim. Yeah, but I. |
1:38.0 | For all the people who aren't who aren't subscribed to patreon Jim is trying to high five Matt and Josh, even though we're not in the same room. Anyway, but Jim, we have a serious topic actually to discuss today. |
1:48.0 | The reason we don't have a guest is because there's been a criminal case or a crime happening in the news just in the last week or so that has just really I have just found it to be very upsetting and of course most crime all crime is very upsetting to someone but this in particular is just it really it really gets it my heart. |
2:11.0 | And I'm just a violent senseless horrific crime terrible and just for our listeners and our patreon subscribers that you know haven't heard about it. I'll give a quick recap in Chicago last weekend. |
2:25.0 | There was a young couple named Giovanni are. |
2:30.0 | I'm afraid I'm going to mispronounce it so my apologies if I did, but Giovanni ours waga and Yasmeen Perez and a young there are young couple they have two little kids one is a baby the others about one or two years old. |
2:45.0 | And they were driving around in Chicago and apparently got into some kind of a minor traffic accident at about 10 o'clock at night in Chicago and it's what happened after that Jim that was just so horrifying. |
2:58.0 | This is called a video there's a couple of different angles of it they were pulled out of their cars yes mean was being beaten. |
3:07.0 | Giovanni came to her rescue and they ended up both getting shot and killed. |
3:14.0 | They were executed I mean it's like when you you can actually see very clearly in the video and I really didn't want to watch it but I knew that we were talking about it so I did but the guy had I mean clearly no he was not an a threat he was completely unassaulted at that point and he just stood there and executed them. |
3:42.0 | It's just horrifying they were I mean you know I don't know who caused the accident it was apparently a minor accident so it doesn't even really matter it was literally a traffic accident there was no assault going on there was no beef between Giovanni Yasmeen and whoever these other people were it was like a mob Jim it was like it was like a mob and so I wanted to talk to you about a couple of different concepts, especially with your background and profiling because. |
4:08.0 | One of the things I don't think we've ever really talked about much on this show other than in a really terrible gang attack case that I have and i'm not sure we really talked about it even then is this idea of the mob and what happens when one person makes a decision to do something terrible and then other people just seem to follow in a way they might not have. |
4:30.0 | I mean I've done themselves can you talk a little bit about that concept of the mob mentality how does something like this even happen well the here's the problem that in a group people tend to act to their extremes in fact beyond their extremes in other words you can get people to do. |
4:50.0 | Things that they would never do on their own i mean not even consider doing on their own but when they're in a mob when there's other people and i think maybe January 6th of this year is probably great example of it that when you get a bunch of people together and they get hyped up. |
