Summary

Hello and welcome to episode 235 of The Mindful Kind podcast.

In this episode, I've shared The Best-Case Scenario Method, which is all about cultivating more hope and positivity.

Here are the steps for implementing The Best-Case Scenario yourself:

  • Notice when a challenge or problem arises in your life
  • Observe non-judgementally if your mind starts to focus on negative thoughts
  • Ask yourself, "What is the best-case scenario?" and spend some time imagining it
  • Ask yourself, "What is one thing I can start doing today to move closer to the best-case scenario?" (And then do it!)

The resources mentioned in this episode include:

- The VIA Character Strengths Test: https://www.viacharacter.org/

- 2020 study about hope

- My Medium article about catastrophizing

- Episode 203 of The Mindful Kind: Self-Fulfilling Prophecies

- My website: www.rachaelkable.com

Thank you so much for listening and I hope you have a wonderful week, Mindful Kind.

Hello and welcome to episode 235 of the Mindful Kind podcast. In this episode, I'm really excited to

share the best case scenario method with you. As you might have guessed, this strategy revolves around focusing on

0:39.2

the best case scenario. But before I dive into the strategy itself, I thought I might share

0:44.7

the story behind it. So a few weeks ago, I was speaking with one of my wonderful clients and we

0:50.4

realized that both of us had scored low for hope on a character strength test.

0:55.5

I'll pop a link to that test in the show notes if you'd like to find out more about it.

But scoring low for hope basically suggests that neither of us are particularly optimistic about the future

1:05.8

or feel confident that things will turn out well.

1:09.4

I actually thought that was pretty surprising because

1:12.0

I like to think I'm a fairly optimistic person and I believe that hope is a relatively important

1:18.0

strength to have. In fact, a study published in 2020 involving nearly 13,000 participants

1:25.3

found that a greater sense of hope was associated with better physical

1:29.9

health, fewer chronic conditions and sleep problems, higher psychological well-being and

1:35.4

better social well-being.

1:37.4

It's been a little mission of mine over the last several weeks to understand more about hope

1:42.6

and how to cultivate it.

1:44.3

I've come across a number of interesting concepts like learned hopefulness,
