Summary
It's Casual Friday! Sam speaks with with Heather Digby Parton, contributing writer at Salon.com and proprietor of the blog Hullabaloo, to round up the week in news. First, Sam runs through updates on Harris’ post-debate polling bump, the disturbing impact of anti-migrant conspiracy about Springfield, Senate polling, Laura Loomer’s DT linkup, labor action in the US, US military aid, Newsmax’s defamation trial, and Israel’s striking of yet another Gazan shelter, before unpacking the Trump campaign’s commitment to dangerous and absurd anti-immigrant conspiracy. Digby then joins as she and Sam run through the major updates to the Presidential race since her appearance last month, from the positive momentum of the Walz pick, responses to the DNC, and Harris’ major victory at Tuesday’s debate, jumping off of the latter discussion by highlighting some of Trump’s biggest blunders butting heads with Harris, from falling face-first into absurd conspiracy-mongering to shifting a conversation on childcare to one on tariffs, and myriad other moments that demonstrated his mental incontinence. Focusing on Harris’ performance, Sam and Digby parse through the data on how she connected with voters, including her emphasis on unified community over identity politics, and presenting herself as a change to a decade of Democratic (voter) depression, before wrapping up the show by touching on what a Trump or Harris presidency would mean for the future of US foreign policy.
And in the Fun Half: Sam tackles the unsurprisingly inhuman choice by the Trump/Vance campaign to quadruple down on their insanely bigoted anti-immigrant fear-mongering, the US’ battle over anti-zionism, and Theo from Vancouver discusses Canada’s own crackdown on anti-zionist dissent.
