I'm here with your favorite animal review podcast, Just the Zoo of Us. I'm so excited this week. We have a really cool animal to talk about with a really cool friend. This is Amani Weber Schultz. Say hi, Amani. Hello. I'm so excited to be here. I am so excited to talk to you. Real quick. Amani, what are your pronouns? She her. Thank you so much. And I'm really excited to talk about this animal because, little spoiler alert, little teaser. I've met one in person, in the wild, in their element. Can't say that for a ton of animals. Have seen this one. |
| 2:01.1 | So I'm very excited to learn more about my little friend. |
| 2:04.5 | But before we talk about our little friend for this week, let's talk about you. |
| 2:08.7 | Amani, you do some really, really awesome work out in the field with some of the coolest animals in the whole world. |
| 2:15.0 | I think you're kind of living the dream for a lot of people, especially kids like of my age. I feel like there's a whole generation of people like about our |
| 2:22.6 | age who wanted to be marine biologists growing up. You know what I mean? There's like a whole generation |
| 2:30.3 | of like little kids, like people who grew up wanting to be marine biologist but you like made it |
| 2:34.4 | happen and are living living the dream so for our friends listening at home let us know a little bit |
| 2:38.8 | what your work is like with these cool sea creatures yeah so i primarily work with sharks those are |
| 2:45.0 | my study species but i do work with fish as a whole um so i study fish morphology, which is essentially I study their bodies in different |
| 2:53.3 | parts of their bodies and how their bodies help them in the environment that they live in. So for |
| 2:57.7 | fish, it's water. I'm currently in my third year of my PhD, I'm studying shark morphology. Specifically, |
| 3:04.1 | I'm studying their scales, which I'm really excited about. So I get to spend a lot of time with shark skin and CT skinners and x-rays. |
