This episode gets into Truman Capote's time with Catherine Graham on a yacht in 1965.

It is everything you like, messy and filled with spiderwebs.

It's Alicia here, and I am not done yet, talking about Catherine Graham, the publisher

of the Washington Post and friend to Truman Capote.

Also, the focus of one of the missing and lost and found chapters of answered prayers.

There was no more perfect time to talk about this particular story that I've been sitting on for the longest.

Remember Truman Capote and answered prayers had a few published chapters in Esquire, and then we've had the mystery of what happened to the rest of those chapters.

There is a chapter of answered prayers called Yachts and Things that was discovered in 2012.

Many, many years, after all, the scuttle butt had died down, but only maybe to kind of

resurrect it again. This Yachts and Things chapter is all about K. Graham, as well as a few other

folks. It's fascinating. I pulled a bit from Sam Cashner here, writing from Vanity Fair

about this chapter from December 2012 when it was discovered. Uh, da-da, breaking news, yachts and

things. Newly discovered, perhaps, the only unpublished piece of answered prayers, Truman

Capote's lost novel in progress. Likely a chapter,

he called Yachts and Things. Nancy Schoenberger, a professor of English and director of creative

writing at the College of William and Mary, and my co-author on Furious Love, first noticed a

manuscript entitled Yachts and Things with five typed pages and the last page written in Truman's tiny elegant hand.

She and I had been trolling through his papers in the manuscripts and archives division of the New York Public Library.
