Today, we get to speak to Retired Agent Roland Rod Swanson, who served in the FBI for 20 years.

On October 1st, 2017, and what was the largest mass shooting incident in US history, 58 concert goers were killed. An additional

422 people were shot to who later died and more than 800 people were injured at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In this episode, Rod Swanson reviews how, although retired, he used his FBI experience and training to assist FBI victim services personnel with a recovery, identification, and return of personal items left behind by victims of the Las Vegas mass shooting.

He shares his initial frustration

when he realized that his retirement status

meant he could not participate in the investigation of this major crisis

event the exact type of crisis event that he had prepared for during his Bureau career.

A career that began with his first assignment to the Philadelphia Division,

where he worked on the violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force, was a relief supervisor, a SWAT

team operator, and a firearms instructor.

He was next selected to become a member of Director Mueller's protective detail and then served as an international terrorism operation supervisor at FBI Headquarters.

He was later promoted to supervise the Transnational Criminal Enterprise Squad and the Joint Terrorism

Task Force in the Las Vegas Field Office. He was also assigned as a deputy on-scene

commander in Baghdad and as the legal attache in Yemen. Upon his return to the U.S. and the Las Vegas Division,

Grod was placed on a public corruption squad. After his retirement from the FBI,

he served for five years as the Chief of Investigations

for the Nevada Office of the Attorney General.
