Welcome to the Feminine Podcast. This is Nancy Wilson. Thanks so much for joining me today. I'd like to

address the older women today from Titus 2, 3, through 5, starting with verse 1 for context.

But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine.

That the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience.

The older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much

wine, teachers of good things, that they may

admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet,

chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the Word of God may not be blasphemed.

When the Bible singles out a particular group, if we are in that particular

group being addressed, we should give it our particular attention. So I just thought today

we just bring it to the old women. Older women are singled out here, and that word likewise

refers us to the verses that precede it. So likewise

means in the same way. So let's first look at what the older men are told to do. They're told to be

sober, not drinking too much, to be reverent, dignified, to be temperate, not overdoing it in any area,

to be sound, which means without defect, upright, and true,

to be sound in doctrine, sound in faith, sound in love, sound in patience. In other words, the older men are to be godly examples. Sober being the first adjective on the list is important because it really

would be impossible to be reverent and all the other things without sobriety first. And the older

women are to follow their example in this soundness. They too are to conduct themselves with reverence, which means

not silly, flighty, or given to extremes. They're to be models for the younger women, dignified,

holding to the faith with sound doctrine, not being swayed by the latest new thing or new way or new idea, but steadfast.

Not too high, not too low, even keel. Like the older men, they are to persevere in patience

and not start giving way in their old age, but tenacious in their faith and love no matter how old. Older women are to guard
