So this past weekend, like many of you, I was running around doing some essential errands

before my family and I kind of hunker down in our house to ride out the storm of the coronavirus.

Now, my kid's school has been canceled.

All the restaurants in Chicago are closed.

There's other types of work where people have been sent home. My wife is working at home. Our life is

fundamentally changing as we speak. And there's new restrictions and new challenges every day that we're

facing. So my wife and I are out on Sunday night and we realize

there's a few essential items we need still, just for some of the dinners and meals we're cooking

this week. So we decide to stop at the European grocery store at the end of the street.

It's owned by some Greek folks and it has, you know, a lot of vegetables, a lot of, you know, staples, things like that. So in order to maximize our time in the store and just be efficient,

we split up the list and we went to different ends of the store, grabbed the things we needed

and met at the checkout lane. Now, while I was there, I sort of was picking up on some of the fear and anxiety

that was surrounding us. People were shopping very quietly. There wasn't a lot of talking.

There was just a general anxiety in the air. And it was taking a couple minutes to check out,

not too long. They were pretty efficient and fast. But in that minute or two,

I just felt my own anxiety rising. And almost automatically, I walked over to the beer shelf

and grabbed a six pack of beer. And I put it on, you know, the checkout conveyor belt.

My wife kind of looked at it and goes, oh, you're getting beer.

She was a little surprised because I've been on a food plan over the last year or so where

beer is not really on the menu.

And I was like, yes, I'm getting beer.
