Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. Goals.

I don't know if you've ever studied the power and concept of goals,

but they are very powerful.

But in today's podcast, we want to look at both the pros and cons of goals.

Because with goals we can achieve many things,

but at the same time they can really keep ever officially introduced to goals was when I was in graduate school.

I was working on my PhD and I don't know how I met this man I think he just approached me

but he said hey could I get together with you and talk about your future and financial

advice and I hadn't made any money yet, but I said, sure.

So I think it was a following week that we got together.

And he explained to me that if I invested about 10% of my income,

every paycheck, that by the time I reach a certain age I would have this amount of money

because of the concept of compound interest.

So if I invested in certain mutual funds, I could look for perhaps a good return on my investment and with time I could

amass quite a bit of money and not have to work anymore. Now the silly thing about it was I had

just started my career I mean really I hadn't even started my career

I think I was working as an intern at the time making not much money and having a lot of debt

Well, I started doing the math because I like math

and figuring out, well, how much have I saved

would this turn into in the future?

And believe it or not, I really got caught up into it because I was thinking about 20
