and Iaster it's a sort of bizarre thing it's it's morning where you are in Australia

and it's evening where I am in America. I know and yet you sound like

you're next door. I've just been swimming in this amazing open air sea water

pool on Bondi Beach which is just such a great start of the day.

Very jealous. I've been teaching students and doing office hours so I'm not as glamorous.

I wish I'd been in it.

And we're going to, we'll talk a little bit about what's going on here in Australia and also the war in Sudan in the second half in the program, but I think in the first half we're going to talk about kind of more domestic, got the budget coming up,

we had that rather bizarre Downey Street address by Ritchie Sunak on the back of the Rochdale by election

won by the repellent George Galloway.

And so shall we start with that?

Yeah, and then just to encourage our international listeners,

quite a lot of Sudan and Australia in the second half but yeah let's start with the quick

click on the Rochdale election and this character George Galloway I mean it's it's

almost impossible to describe him in any very straightforward way.

George Galloway has, I believe, I've tried to count, stood 15 times for elected office.

So he was a labor MP from 1987 to 2005.

Then he was in Glasgow Hill,

and Glasgow Kelvin. Then from 2005, 2010, he was an MP in Bethel Green and Bow. Then 2011, it lost his seat, 2010. 2011 stood in Scotland and lost. 2012 stood in Bradford West for the Respect Party and won his seat there, which he lost again in 2015.
