Summary

Host Brad Kearns offers some important tips to make your first foray into nutritional ketosis a success. As you may know, the complete Keto Reset journey entails a 21-Day Metabolism Reset, a fine-tuning period of morning fasting, followed by a minimum 6-week stint of nutritional ketosis. Regardless of your long-term keto strategy, completing a single Keto Reset journey and staying keto for at least six weeks affords you the highest level of metabolic flexibility, which you can leverage into long-term benefits. Even when well prepared, it can be tough to make it through the initial weeks of keto, since you are making such a dramatic transition from your lifelong #1 fuel source of glucose over to fat and ketones. Follow the guidelines offered in the show to make sure you succeed out of the gate and hang in to the magic six-week mark and perhaps beyond (since it gets super easy by then!)

So you've done the hard work, you've done the 21-day metabolism reset, you've done the fine-tuning, proving that you're metabolically efficient and you can last till midday without eating your first source of calories, feeling good, and now

0:44.8

we're ready to tackle it. So let's talk about how to do it right on the diet front as well as

0:50.8

throwing in those all-important comprehensive lifestyle aspects. My first idea out of the

gate is I want you to strongly consider to complete at least one complete keto reset journey

1:05.7

as detailed in the book so that you can obtain that highest level of metabolic fitness and leverage that really

1:13.1

for the rest of your life. So that entails a 21-day metabolism reset where you're ditching the

1:19.5

grains and sugars and the bad oils and all whiff of carbohydrate dependency. You're getting the

1:24.8

lifestyle matters handled as well. Then you're going to do that fine

1:28.9

tuning period where you test out with morning fasting if you can function well up until midday. That's a

1:35.4

good indication that you're ready for your first attempt at nutritional ketosis. And we strongly

1:41.0

encourage that that lasts a minimum duration of six weeks.

1:46.4

You are going to feel so great after six weeks, and it's going to be so easy that you'll be able to continue on indefinitely, if you want.

1:54.0

I relate the story that when I was working on the book, I went into my nutritional ketosis experiment, and it lasted 140 days. That's like over four months,

2:04.3

almost five. And then I deliberately exited my keto macronutrient eating pattern just for the experimental

2:11.2

reasons of bringing carbs back in, seeing how I reacted and getting a complete picture so that we could work on the book in an informed manner.

2:19.7

And at the time the six-week mark hit, I know that was the minimum standard that's so

2:24.4

advocated by Dr. D'Agostino, and I didn't even notice because it was so easy and so smooth.

2:30.0

So really, you want to get to that six-week mark.

2:33.1

There may be some struggling involved, especially if your approach is not dialed in.
