This week I'm going to start in exactly the same place as I started last week.

On June 15th, 1520 Pope Leo X issued the papal bull exorche domine, a rise o' Lord.

The bull threatened an obscure German Augustinian monk with excommunication and described his

teachings as a deadly poison.

Today then, we arrive at the story of how that deadly poison came to be injected into

the bloodstream of the church and the early response to it in England.

Which means that we must of course come to the bath time story of Martin Luther.

You may well have heard the story before, but if so, it's surely a story worth hearing

many times.

So Martin Luther was a young, twenty-one-year-old student destined for the law by his commercial

and hard-bitten father, the kind of father that says look, kid, forget that stuff about,

do what you love and you'll never work for the rest of your life, it's tribe.
