Summary

Are you judging yourself for not mastering things no one ever taught you? In this episode, I unpack the shame hidden in phrases like “at this big age,” and why adulthood was never meant to be a finish line. Hey guys, this is my leak and this is the podcast. Earlier this week on my socials, I posted about

0:08.2

judging yourself for not mastering things you are never taught. On my threads and on my

0:15.1

Instagram, I said, you're judging yourself for not mastering things you were never taught.

0:19.6

These are learnable life skills, not character flaws.

0:23.6

And there's one slide that I have where I talk about one of my pet peeves being the phrase

0:29.9

big age, at this big age, at your big age.

0:32.8

And so I'm going to get into some of the meat behind these learnable life skills, but if you will allow me to rant about why I don't like at this big age, because there's a few things.

0:47.4

Number one, it's rooted in shame.

0:49.6

And if we haven't learned anything, it's that shame and learning don't go hand in hand. It's really

0:56.6

difficult to learn something new when you have shame. And so perhaps there are some things that someone

1:03.5

could have learned, maybe tying your shoes by the time you're an adult. But that's often

1:09.2

1:23.8

boundaries, finances, all of that, doesn't mean, you know, there's no time limit on it

1:31.0

just because you are in adulthood? Another reason why I don't love it, it's anti-evolution. How are we

1:37.1

supposed to evolve heal generational patterns or try something new if we're shamed the moment we step out and try. Number four, it discourages

1:48.0

vulnerability. At your big age can silence people who are genuinely trying to grow by suggesting

1:56.5

that their efforts are laughable or embarrassing. Last one is that sometimes it's a projection.

2:03.9

The phrase sometimes is said by someone uncomfortable with their own unfinished business.

2:09.5

Oh, you're still trying at your big age.

2:13.4

Might that be a trigger for them?

2:15.5

So let's go ahead and retire this phrase and honestly i feel like
