A bit of housekeeping before we start this week's story.

I had a listener reach out because a work colleague of hers lost a nephew in a senseless violent crime.

Friend of the show Shannon shared with me a child Jarvie Roy's story,

who only two weeks ago, August 16, 2025.

This sweet little boy was all cosied up in bed,

his mother doing everything she could to keep him safe.

When gunshots were heard from outside, Jarvie sat up in bed,

only to be struck by a stray bullet.

He died in his mother's arms.

Canada is going through a lack of justice in its justice system right now, with violent offenders getting bail and shorter sentences. There is a petition to really put the pressure onto lawmakers

throughout Canada to protect its children. No child should lose their life to violence.

As a petition states, this tragedy highlights the urgent need for stronger laws, safer communities

and greater accountability. As we know, indigenous people such as Javi are disproportionately at risk,
