Summary

Gregory Hyde joins the podcast to share his story of being a musician and worship leader, and walking through a time of doubt that ultimately that led him to study apologetics. We talk about some of his toughest questions… how to make sense of difficult narratives in the Old Testament, why God would create the devil knowing that Satan would rebel, and do rock stars go to heaven?

Welcome to The Alisa Childers Podcast, where we equip Christians to identify the core

0:13.1

beliefs of historic Christianity, discern its counterfeits, and proclaim the gospel with

0:17.9

clarity, kindness, and truth, and I've just had a wonderful conversation with Gregory Hyde,

0:23.6

who is a full-time musician and worship leader, but he's starting an apologetics YouTube

0:28.1

channel and he's a great speaker. And I just wanted to introduce my audience to him because I've

0:33.2

really been enjoying his videos. We got to meet at the Cross Exam and Instructor Academy, but we

0:37.3

talked about all the things today. Gregory shared his story of growing up in a Christian home and

0:42.9

then encountering a youth pastor who couldn't really answer some of the honest questions he had about

0:49.1

the nature of God and the existence of God and the nature of Christianity, and it actually caused

0:53.8

him to float into a type of agnosticism. And he was brought out of that through apologetics,

0:59.4

discovering a C.S. Lewis book. It's a great story. He shares that story with us and what led him

1:04.6

to do the type of ministry that he does today. But we also talked through some really tough questions,

1:09.3

some of the ones he had as a young teenager. Specifically, why would God create the devil,

1:15.9

knowing that the devil would turn against him and unleash all this evil on the world? We talked

1:20.8

through the Elisha and the Bearer stories, which is a TikTok favorite among the Deconstruction

1:26.1

crowd. You know, did God just kill a group of kids for making a bald joke? We talked through that.

1:32.4

We talked about, does evil prove the existence of God? And if you saw our episode with Dr.

1:38.0

Groetheiss and Dr. Sheppardson, we talked a little bit about the moral argument. We go a little

1:42.4

bit deeper into that in this episode. So that was a real highlight for me, but probably the biggest

1:46.8

highlight for me was asking Gregory the question, do rock stars go to heaven when they die? Because

1:51.7

everybody, when a rock star dies, everybody posts on social media, the music in heaven just got a

1:57.4

whole lot better. Should we even be thinking that way? How do we process when rock stars die and do
