At the end of the last episode, it was about 11 o'clock on the morning of Friday, October

3rd, 1862, and after some brisk skirmishing at Northwest of the town of Corinth's Mississippi,

Earl Van Dorn's Confederates had pushed across Cain Creek and deployed for battle.

Van Dorn deployed his three divisions and pressed ahead toward the Union defenders,

who were positioned along the lines of the old Confederate entrenchments built under
