What's the difference between a film and a movie, Luke?

Well, they're the same thing, all right?

A movie is just American English, film is British English.

Some people might say that we use the word film in a more serious way, and movie refers to the more kind of Hollywood popcorn kind of thing

you know the sort of film you watch when you eat loads of popcorn on a Saturday

night just sort of frivolous entertainment.

But really it's British and American English,

although lots of British people say movie as well now.

For me a movie is a kind of popcorn film

and a film is slightly more serious.
