Neuroscientist and entrepreneur David Eaglement.

David does groundbreaking work connected to how we perceive time and also research is an

intriguing phenomenon called sensory substitution.

This can be manifested in many ways, one of which is the tendency of people who are deprived

of one sense to develop high acuity in other senses.

For instance, blind folks have an exceptional sense of hearing or touch.

David has gotten so deep into sensory substitution that he's taken the unusual step of leaving

academia to start a company called Neosensory.

Their first line of products seeks to help deaf people develop a de facto sense of hearing

by translating the sounds in a room into a complex but highly logical series of vibrations

and taps on the torso.

This is accomplished with a vest which has 32 of those humming notification motors that

are found in cell phones.

It's too early in the development cycle to know if the vest will become a true substitute

for hearing.
