0:26.3	What did the text mean in its original context? So today we get to a really interesting reading.
0:32.7	What you would hear at mass today is Luke chapter 13 versus 22 to 30. So here's the text. Through towns and villages
0:43.2	Jesus went teaching, making his way to Jerusalem. Someone said to him, sir, will there only be a few
0:51.1	saved? He said to them, try your best to enter by the narrow door, because I tell you, many
0:59.0	will try to enter and will not succeed.
1:02.9	Once the master of the house has got up and locked the door, you may find yourself
1:07.6	knocking on the door, saying, Lord, open to us, but he will answer, I do not
1:14.0	know where you come from. Then you will find yourself saying, we once ate and drank in your
1:20.4	company, you taught in our streets. But he will reply, I do not know where you come from, away from me all you wicked men.
1:31.0	Then there will be weeping and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves turned outside.
1:42.1	And men from east and west, north and south will come to take their
1:47.3	places at the feast in the kingdom of God. Yes, there are those now last who will be first,
1:54.5	and those now first who will be last. So some really interesting words from Jesus today and we want to pay close attention
2:03.3	to them because there's some pretty strong warnings in here and this is perhaps a part of the
2:07.7	gospels that you may not have heard from. So what's the context here? So Jesus is moving from
2:13.7	Galilee to Judea for the final phase of his ministry. So he's moving towards Jerusalem.
2:19.4	Along the way, he's doing ministry, he's speaking to the crowds, he's been doing healings,
2:24.1	and he's just given a couple of parables about the kingdom of God. So building on that,
2:28.9	Jesus is now going to give some very clear teachings on who will make it into the kingdom.
