Good morning everyone. Welcome back to the Realignment's daily coverage of the Ukraine crisis

through specific lenses of different issues. From the past we've done counterinsurgency,

we've done sanctions. Today we are going to focus on the intelligence community.

Those of you who tuned into soccer in my first and second discussion episodes that we're

going to be doing more of in the future will know we had this huge disagreement about the

intelligence community and what it means given their predictions around the invasion of Ukraine,

but also bad predictions and bad calls in terms of the fall of Kabul and then also September 11th

and the Iraq war obviously in terms of no weapons and mass destruction. So for this episode I decided

to bring on Professor Amy Ziggert from Stanford University. She has a new book out. It's called

Spies, Lies and Algorithms, The History and Feature of American Intelligence. This is a really

interesting book. We start with just the focus on Ukraine, what happened with the Biden administration's

decision to leak the classified intelligence as the Putin's plans, but then we take a step back

and look at intelligence agencies and discuss how they should or shouldn't be reformed in what

their history means for the future, especially during an age when we're transitioning away from

the war on terror and focused more on the great power competition with Russia and China.
