The main international body that's delivered the authoritative reports on what's happening,

the intergovernmental panel on climate change. Those reports are delivered through a very

compromised process in which governments need to sign off on the summary for policymakers.

So governments that have huge interest in exporting

fossil fuels like Saudi Arabia, Australia, the United States get to sign off on what's presented

as the consensus of the scientific community. So it's not in their interest for this body to say,

well, we're completely out of time and we need to stop emitting greenhouse gases

right now, which is what any ethical interpretation of this situation would tell you.
