Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. I just returned home from a week vacation to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

I don't know if you've ever been there, but it's beautiful.

I've been there once before and I had a wonderful time going there again.

The first night we arrived after a day of traveling and we were very hungry so we ended up finding

an Italian restaurant and the food was magnificent, but was far more interesting was our waiter.

He was actually from Italy, had been living in the United States for over 40 years, and

he was 75 years old, still working full time. Up to his 65th birthday, he had never been married, but at 65 he met the love of his life and had been married for 10 years now.

We ended up enjoying the food so much and his company that we went back there several times.

So we ended up meeting several of his friends and he was just a very happy warm jovial type person, truly a beautiful

soul. Now I had been to Santa Fe about six years ago and I went back and saw an old friend of mine. He is now 88 years old still working

full time as a librarian. Yes, that's correct. 88 years old still working full time as a librarian, and one of the happiest gentlest souls

His mind was incredibly clear, and he was just a gentle, beautiful soul, whose only complaint was his body was getting older and sometimes it was hard to see the smaller print

but memory wise and heart wise he is a beautiful soul who has lived a full life. Both these men were still working

full-time in their 70s and 80s and both very happy. So why is that? Is there any correlation between getting older and living longer

if we're happier? And the good news is the answer is yes. In 2018, four researchers at the Duke and U.S. Medical School in Singapore studied the effects of
