0:00.0	While renting a room in Salinas, California, a woman named Ruth Ann supported her drug
0:07.3	habit and her 13-year-old daughter, Jamie, with welfare and prostitution.
0:12.1	James King previously rented a room in the same house where he still received mail and
0:16.6	maintained friendships, including with Ruth Ann's boyfriend, Eric Barton, and the landlord,
0:21.9	Doug Dobel.
0:23.2	James would come by occasionally to pick up his mail and socialize as he did on August
0:27.9	1, 1997, for the Salinas Air Show.
0:31.6	A few days later, while landlord Doug Dobel was in Las Vegas, James intervened when he
0:36.2	saw Ruth Ann trying to sell Doug's moped.
0:39.5	Ruth Ann, who had already pawned Doug's TV, threatened James that she would get back at

1:02.2	This time for the alleged August 1 sexual assault of 13-year-old Jamie, during which time he
1:08.1	allegedly ejaculated on a tan carpet.
1:11.6	When confronted with the carpet testing negative for semen, the young girl said that her
1:15.6	dog must have eaten it.
1:17.7	She later changed the story to a blue carpet that Dobel confirmed did not exist.
1:23.5	Despite these glaring red flags, the DA used Jamie's story and a medical expert's testimony
1:29.6	that has since been characterized as absurd to send James away for 35 years to life.
