From 2035 the government has said we're going to do away with gas, we're going to do away

with all fossil fuel from the national grid and it's going to be all zero carbon energy

and nobody has explained to me what we are going to do then when the wind isn't blowing

the sun isn't shining we had a cold December very still calm weather

of course in December you're generating very very little solar energy

the government's only strategy seems to be more solar, more wind, more solar, more wind

you know what happens in future?

so Ross I want to talk to you about net zero and climate change, the environmental movement

all those interesting fascinating topics hooked off your brilliant new book not zero

how an irrational target will impoverish you help China and won't even save the planet

I always love it when a book title says everything and then you have to dig in to get all the details

so I guess the best way for us to kick off in a discussion about net zero

and what it really means is to say what net zero is

so can you just kick us off by saying what you understand the net zero policy to be

what is it force us to do or what is the suggest we need to do in order to save ourselves from climate change?

Well what the government has done is put itself under it's not just a target

it is a legal commitment so to reach net zero emissions by 2050 and what that means

it's not just carbon emissions it's greenhouse gas emissions which are slightly different

includes things like methane and what that's of net bit means is that you know

if we are still emitting some form of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases by 2050
