And today, we're tackling a very big subject, a whole country cinematic output, specifically

the country of Brazil.

Here is some interesting information about Brazil.

Bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east, Brazil has a coastline of 7,491 kilometers.

It borders all other countries in South America except Ecuador and Chile and covers 47.3% of the continent's land area. Its Amazon River Basin includes a vast...

Oh, right. I'm just going to stop you right here. I would have gone on forever. I know.

We got to fill these 25 minutes. So I wanted to tackle this subject because I knew nothing about

this cinema. And by that I mean like I've heard of turns like Cinemanovo and I've heard about

filmmakers, but it was never something that I

really went out of my way to check out. So by giving ourselves this topic, I was like, all right,

I'm going to force myself to sit down and watch all of this country's output, which has a very

varied one and a cinematic history that spans the birth of the moving picture.

I know we like to fancy ourselves film experts on this podcast, although this is one of the,

let's say, many film industries around the world that I had only a cursory knowledge of.

I had no knowledge whatsoever of Brazil, aside from the fact that there is a Terry Gilliam movie called Brazil, and also that City of God came from there.

Oh, wait, we're not talking about Terry Gilliams, Brazil?

I'm in trouble.

I'm not going to claim that I come here with any expertise or that this was a particularly easy week for me.
