Hey, what's up? Welcome back to the show. This is, of course, David Scales for Surf Splendor,

0:07.0

and today's guest is San Diego Surfboard Shaper Josh Hall. Before we get to Josh, however, I have a few things that I want to announce.

0:15.0

Firstly, we're giving away a surfboard. So part of my goal since day one here has been to highlight board builders.

0:22.6

And surfboards are the one thing that are an absolute necessity for the act of surfing.

0:28.6

There's certainly an element of art and craftsmanship required to make a surfboard,

0:33.6

but surprisingly, it turns out to be among the least profitable ways to make

0:39.0

a living in the surf industrial complex. So the people who opt into that lifestyle are interesting

0:45.2

interview subjects because of those reasons, and they'll always be relevant to any conversation

0:51.8

So if I squeezed in an advertisement for another shaper, it would be akin to a conflict of interest.

1:18.9

It's not really a conflict of interest, but it just, it also doesn't really feel like the right move.

1:23.7

But I do want to support that community. So I've designed what I think might be the perfect solution, and it's basically an affiliate

1:32.3

program.

1:33.4

This show is mainly supported by listeners with an assist from the brand partnerships like

1:38.6

Spy Fanatic and Need Essentials, and we figured that it would be an opportunity to honor the listener's support

1:46.2

the people who have supported this show for the last two years since we've opened up that

1:50.5

donation platform. This will be an opportunity to honor them while simultaneously highlighting

1:55.2

a specific surfboard design or a new construction. So the Shaper will donate the board.

2:03.1

I'll tell you all about it,
