Summary

It’s January and that means a new book review! Every year we have 2 book reviews that we share on the podcast. The first book is done in January and the second in July. For this month’s book review we are sharing our thoughts on the book Essentialism by Greg McKeown.  In his book Greg discusses the importance of prioritizing what truly matters by focusing on what is essential to your life and work. The book is broken down into 4 parts: Part 1: Essence Part 2: Explore Part 3: Eliminate Part 4: Execute We discuss the biggest takeaways from each of these four parts along with our overall impression of the book. In the next two episodes you’ll hear a week-in-the-life episode of Michelle and Bridget as they share implementing the strategies from the book into their daily routines.  If you’d like to join us on this book review, you can grab a copy HERE! Well, hello there, top teachers. We are your host, Bridget Spackman and Michelle Emerson, and we are here to make your life easier by helping you master your time, organization, and productivity as a teacher.

0:12.6

Listen, I have a question for y'all. If you were to take a flight and you could only take a few things in your backpack, what would you take?

0:18.6

The essentials, right? In this episode, we're going to discuss

0:21.8

our thoughts on essentialism and how to build and focus on the essentials in your life and how to

0:29.6

prioritize what truly matters. That was a good little connection there. I like that lady.

0:34.4

Thank you. But first, we are going to hear a TSAH from Mandy. Mandy says,

0:40.1

my time-sucking hurdle is what I affectionately call the redo blues. It sounded like that needed audio.

0:48.6

I don't know why. Sometimes I get ahead on a task just to get new information at the last minute that requires me to completely redo the task.

0:59.7

This makes me sad, so then I have the redo blues.

1:02.8

I can't control every spontaneous change that occurs, but how can I better prepare for these issues so that I'm not singing the blues?

1:11.4

Thanks for all you ladies do to inspire and motivate teachers.

1:15.6

So, Michelle, you're going to have to help me because my brain hurts.

1:20.3

But one of the things that I would question first is what are the tasks that you are being asked to redo?

1:30.9

For example, is it a lesson that you are given information about and then you're like, well, now I have to redo this whole lesson? Is it how you

1:36.5

have your schedule created? Is it, you know, emails or, you know, assessments that you're delivering

1:43.2

or analyzing that you're having to redo,

1:47.4

I would almost have to have an understanding of what is it specifically you're redoing to

1:52.2

understand why you're having to change so many things. Does that make sense, Michelle?

1:58.0

It does. And what's interesting is as I read this TSAH from Mandy,

2:03.4

in my brain, I was like, oh, I remember that happening. Like, I remember there being times

2:07.9

where I would do something and then get new information and have to redo it. And yeah, it stinks.

2:13.3

But thinking back, I can't remember like a specific example of when that happened.
