Today we're going to learn two new Spanish verbs that end with I-R, and let's start with the verb

0:20.0

Occurir, which means something like to occur.

0:24.9

This is spelled with only one C.

0:27.6

O, C, U-R-R-I-R, I-R.

0:31.4

Occuririr.

0:33.2

Now, one meaning of this verb is to occur, as in to happen.

0:38.8

In this sense, it can be a synonym for both passar and suceder.

0:43.7

So, for example, the sentence,

0:45.6

these things happen sometimes, could be translated any of the following ways.

0:52.7

Note that in English we use the verb occur in two different ways. In one sense,

1:30.8

1:38.8

Something strange occurred to me. In this sentence, occurred doesn't mean happened. What we actually mean here is that I

1:48.4

realized something or came up with something. Now, we already know that the Spanish idiom for realized is

1:54.8

darse quenta. But we'll use that idiom where we specifically use the term Realize in English.

2:02.4

For occurring, we're going to use a different idiom,

2:05.9

specifically an idiom that uses the pronominal version of occurir.

2:10.4

Check this sentence out.
