0:55.4	The outlook then was notably gloomy for Ukraine and it hasn't improved much since, I'm sad to say. But appearances can be
1:01.3	deceptive. Both the respected Washington think tank, the ISW and British intelligence, have noted
1:06.9	that Russian forces are continuing to make tactical gains in Donetsk, following the capture
1:12.0	of Voolodar, but at what cost and for what purpose? The cost is clear, more than 1,250
1:18.1	casualties killed and wounded a day during the month of September, according to a briefing by
1:22.8	British intelligence, which equates to a whopping 37,500 for the whole month. Since last October,
1:30.2	Russian forces have reportedly lost at least five divisions worth of armoured vehicles and tanks
1:35.2	in Donetsk alone. And yet, despite the recent gains, say the ISW, Russian forces have not demonstrated
1:41.7	a capacity to seize operationally significant objects.
1:45.6	This assessment is important because many Western commentators, in typically doomsday fashion,
1:50.5	are suggesting that the fall of Voolodar might presage a more significant breakthrough.
1:55.3	Not, according to the ISW, which writes,
1:57.8	The Russian seizure of Vuladar will not on its own radically change the operational
2:02.0	situation in Western Donets-Oblast, and Russian forces will likely struggle to achieve their
2:07.4	operational objectives in the area during the ongoing offensive operation in Western Donets
