Summary

For patients with a new dysphagia diagnosis, navigating their day-to-day looks a little differently than they're used to. No one should have to walk through that journey alone. Maggie Donaker and Kristin Winter have partnered together to share about their virtual support group for people living with dysphagia, Dysphagia Digest. They're joined by two very special guests, Len Amato and Tom LaGreca, who share their experiences with living with dysphagia and how a support group has improved their experience and given them a boost in morale when they needed it most, in episode 204 of Swallow Your Pride. They each share how they initially were mostly receiving support from the group and are now able to provide hope and support for other members who are also grappling with a new dysphagia diagnosis. Maggie and Kristin provide resources for SLPs who would like to start a support group and for individuals with dysphagia who would like to find one in this inspiring episode.

0:13.2	So our first SLP is Kristen Winter.
0:16.0	She has more than 20 years experience treating adults with dysphagian
0:19.1	neurologic impairments.
0:20.6	She received her master's degree from Florida,
0:22.6	at Atlantic University and bachelor's degree in speech
0:25.4	pathology from the University of Florida.
0:27.7	She was the lead speech pathologist
0:29.1	at her local hospital for many years
0:30.8	and ran a stroke support group in her community for over 10 years.
0:34.5	She has a passion for advocacy and education for her patients and their caregivers and
0:38.5	families which led her to partner with Maggie to facilitate the Disphasia
0:42.4	digest of Florida.
0:44.3	She is a private practice owner and Speech Pathologist of Speech Rx in Stewart, Florida.
0:49.6	She has been busy attaining many certifications over the past few years,
0:52.8	including the McNeil Disphasia Therapy Program,
0:54.8	manual therapy for voice and swallowing disorders,
0:57.4	and also became trained in fees.
0:59.0	When she's not busy training patients,
1:00.6	you can find her spending time at the beach or watching college sports with her family.
