On this week’s MiniPod, hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers tell us what qualities they’d like to see in a 2028 Presidential nominee. They’ll speedrun through potential candidates and their strengths and weaknesses.

| 0:13.3 | Welcome home, y'all. I am really excited about the fact that we had a great pod this week, |
| 0:16.7 | and I wish we could have Reverend Bryant with us just often. I mean, his intellect, his wisdom. |
| 0:22.6 | I really hope he takes it to heart to pray for us to keep us in our prayers, in his prayers. |
| 0:27.7 | He's just a man who just means so much. |
| 0:30.3 | And it was awesome to have him on even unplanned or without much coincidence as we talked about the death of Reverend Jesse Jackson. |
| 0:38.2 | And one of the things that we wanted to talk about on this mini-pot is thinking about |
| 0:42.6 | Jesse Jackson in 84 and 88, one of the things that I said, you know, back when we were going |
| 0:48.6 | through 2024 and I wanted to pose it to the group is this was an amazing time or moment |
| 0:54.1 | for a Jesse Jackson type of candidate. |
| 0:57.0 | One of those candidates who had the ability to reach across cultural divides could speak to poor folk from Appalachia, |
| 1:03.8 | all the way to poor folks in the projects in Chicago. |
| 1:07.0 | And so Angela in the show, one, talked about the fact that, you know, it's time for nation building and also whether or not Reverend Jackson would be able to see us turn that corner. |
| 1:18.6 | And so my question that I wanted to pose to you all in the audience who were watching and to my friends and partners in crime is, what are we looking for as someone to carry the |
| 1:29.1 | torch as we turn that page, as we turn the corner, hopefully from some of our darker days |
| 1:37.7 | in this country's history. |
| 1:38.8 | And we can talk about names, but I think this far out, we probably want to just talk about characteristics. I almost build a candidate. Maybe mention some people who fall in certain categories of what we're looking like. I would love for 88, not 84, Jesse, but 88, Jesse to be running right now, but he ain't. So what are we looking like when we're talking about candidates? Andrew, Angela, I want to throw that to y'all. |
| 2:04.1 | When we get to names, I'm going to do that part because I'm here for the tea. |
| 2:05.3 | But Andrew, I'm right. |
