| 0:00.0 | Hey everyone. What's going on? Welcome to That Triathlon Life podcast. We're back. |
| 0:05.9 | 2026, baby. You're, this is going to be kind of a, I don't know, this is going to be a little bit different because we've had some much needed rest and recovery after pretty intense last year. We'll get you caught up on everything that has been going on. |
| 0:38.1 | If you're new here, Paul and I are both professional athletes. Nick is a professional musician, amateur athlete, and our sport of choice is triathlon. We didn't even mention our names at the start. Did we not? No. You're right. We didn't go through the roll call. Well, what's your name? Paul Finley. |
| 0:39.1 | Eric, what's your name? |
| 0:40.6 | Eric Lagerstrom. |
| 0:41.2 | I'm Nick. |
| 0:57.8 | My name's Nick Goldston. There, did it. That's how out of practice we are. I mean, I instantly caught it, so I'm pretty much... I really didn't. I really did it. You are the one that catches all the mistakes in the relationship. This is true. And points them out frequently. |
| 0:56.0 | We would be lost. |
| 0:58.0 | Anyway, Paul and I just got back from a ski trip, something that we, I guess we're on a three-year cycle now. |
| 1:04.0 | It was absolutely magical. |
| 1:05.1 | We feel very recovered after having only like 30 or 40 minutes of Wi-Fi a day and doing a lot of backcountry skiing in |
| 1:12.0 | the mountains. And Nick, you're in New York. So once we get past all the things that we've been doing, we'll be back to normal. Most of this podcast relies on people writing in questions and we talk about them and answer them. So if you've done that, thank you so much. If you haven't done that, get on it. |
| 1:27.6 | Eric, I feel like you just skied past the fact that you kind of had a spiritual awakening at this |
| 1:31.4 | skate. them. So if you've done that, thank you so much. If you haven't done that, get on it. |
| 2:20.0 | Eric, I feel like you just skied past the fact that you kind of had a spiritual awakening at this ski trip. Did you not? Yeah, I think we need to go into a deeper dive about ski trips. I was just going broad strokes and then I figured we would kind of like dive in. We are diving. This is the dive. Let's do it. Okay, well, we went to Powder Creek Lodge, which is you fly out of Nelson, British Columbia, a helicopter ride into the lodge. It's only accessible by helicopter. I think in the summer you could like bushwhack your way up there, but in the winter, it's the only way to get up. So you're kind of like relying on the weather being good because helicopters can't fly in fog and rain and things that happen all the time. As we found out. Uh-oh. The way out was hairy. But anyway, once you get in, you just ski to her from the lodge all week. And this year just happened to have like record snowfall for December, but relatively safe avalanche conditions at the same time. |
| 2:27.0 | So it was this like magical combination of being able to ski really big, cool things that usually can't ski till the spring. |
| 2:33.3 | And it's a guided trip. So two really experienced amazing guides. |
| 2:36.0 | Same. One of them was the same as we had last time when we went in 2023 and a chef. So it's like this crazy combination of there was basically like 10 people there, |
| 2:46.9 | 10 guests. And then John and Shelley, who on the lodge and who invited us to come, and then |
| 2:51.8 | three guides and a chef. And that's like our little family for a week. And it's this crazy |
| 2:58.0 | combination of like feeling like you're in the wilderness in some ways because you're like |
| 3:03.6 | using a composting toilet and you're having a bucket shower and there's things that are |
