This is the fourth year for the writing prize we do, second year for the photo award.

That's right, Jim. We're glad to have this opportunity to highlight these students' works,

and we want to thank our friends at the Walter and Carlick Goldschmidt Foundation

for donating to these students and giving us this opportunity.

Jim, you and I may know a thing or two about criticism, but photography clearly isn't our focus,

so to speak.

Well, we've worked with some Pulitzer Prize winning photographers down in the trenches and the

mosh pits.

So we have learned a lot, but also I teamed up with my former colleagues on the faculty

at Columbia College, Chicago, in the photo department, who suggested to us some contenders.

We chose the finalists from that list.

Really incredible work, and we'll be hearing from two of those photographers today.

So in this episode, we're going to hear from Rosalie Gengress,

who also won an award for her critical writing,
