We are doing something slightly different with today's episode in that as we go into these final days of 2024, we're looking back at the year's biggest stories, some of the stories we've missed, and some of the major trends and themes.

So we're going to start by talking about discovery of the year.

And Hannah, I believe you've got some condenders for this title.

Yes, I found it really hard to choose. It's been a really exciting year in archaeological terms, in scientific terms.

It's been a year where boundaries are really pushing forward, I think.

So I thought I'd start off with the archaeology.

I've been really struck by how many amazing discoveries have taken place in the British Isles,

often by people with their metal detectors, having a look around and see what they can discover.

So a particularly important find has been an enormous hoard of Roman coins from the period of the Emperor Nero and some Iron Age coins in there as well. 1,368 altogether
